Is your metabolism preventing you from shedding those few extra pounds? Even with diet and exercise, with a slow metabolism, weight loss can be almost impossible. Luckily, there are a few methods available to restore that indolent metabolism!
If you have a slow metabolism, it’s can be due to chronic inflammation. With a slowed metabolism, it is helpful to really analyze what could be causing this. Poor eating habits can cause this chronic inflammation and make weight-loss almost impossible. I personally know how difficult it is to maintain a strict eating regime with a busy lifestyle. As a student with a full-time job, it was nearly impossible to keep my eating regime regular. Suddenly, I was no longer able to burn through all food that I consumed like when I was sixteen. However, what I found most helpful was meal prepping for a few days in advance. This allowed me to grab my food for the day in the morning and know that I had healthy food on hand for the day. The foods that are most likely to slow your metabolism are the foods we eat when we are constantly on the go; such as, junk foods, highly processed foods, grains, foods high in sugar, and GMOs.
There are other causes to slowed metabolisms such as food sensitivities to items such as gluten, nuts, and dairy products. It is important to acknowledge that you may have sensitivity to a food that could be considered healthy. This could require some trial and error to target this sensitivity.
You can become an efficient fat-burner by incorporating intermittent fasting or eating for a shortened period daily. An example of this is eating only between 10 am and 6 pm, giving your body 16 hours to burn glycogen (stored sugar)out of the liver and begin to burn fat for fuel. Taking action with this eating regime improves life in many ways; It can reverse insulin resistance, and protect your brain from degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. And it stops cravings for sugar and processed carbohydrates.
Sitting is the new smoking. Get up! Get up at least once an hour and limit your time sitting as much as possible. Your legs can bear your weight. And trust me, you can stand and type at the same time. A great way to contribute to your revitalized self is to introduce strength training. This is a great muscle building activity, which in turn fires up your metabolism. You can actually continue to burn calories for 72 hours after the exercise! Feel that burn! So what’s the best way to build strength? Slow-motion weight training, like the weight training we do at 15ME of course.
If you’re like me, and concerned that your metabolism is not what it used to be, do some dietary detective work and try to find the root cause of a slowed metabolism. This will be the trickiest part and the most time consuming. The other aspects such as sitting less, and more exercise will come to be second nature once you take action to make it a habit. Revitalize your metabolism and revamp that self-esteem!
